Contact

Notalo is made by Taekyung Lee, and I read every message. Email [email protected]. Replies usually take one to three days; English and Korean are both fine.

A conversion that went wrong

This is the most useful kind of email we get, and it is how most improvements to the detector have started. Please attach the page you uploaded (the original photo or PDF, not a screenshot of the result) and say in a sentence what was wrong: missed notes, wrong letters in one hand, wrong note lengths in the MIDI. The file is used only to reproduce the problem and is deleted afterwards. If you would rather not send the page, a description of the printing (book, PDF, phone photo) and which bars were wrong still helps.

A song you would like added

We add public-domain songs regularly and take requests. Before you ask, the one rule we cannot bend: the melody must be out of copyright everywhere, which in practice means the composer died more than 70 years ago and the song was published before 1930. How we check explains why film, game and pop themes, and most songs written after 1930, are not possible. Carols, folk songs, nursery rhymes and classical pieces nearly always are.

Copyright

If you believe something on this site infringes a copyright you hold, email the URL of the page, a description of the work you believe is infringed, and how we can reach you. We respond within a few days and remove disputed material while we look into it. The full procedure is in the Terms of Service.

Press, teachers, schools

Notalo is free to use in lessons and classrooms, with no sign-up and no limit beyond the daily conversion allowance. Teachers who want a batch of songs for a class, or a feature that would help (a label style we do not have, a print layout), should just ask; several of the label options on the converter came from teachers' emails. Journalists and bloggers are welcome to use the screenshots and demo scores on this site with a link back.

What we cannot do

Rather just try it? Upload a photo or PDF of any piano sheet music and see the letters under every note.
